Alaska's Premier Assisted Living

Riverside in Soldotna: A New Beginning

Whether you’re a homesteader or a relative newbie to the Peninsula…you’re probably familiar with the Riverside House & Restaurant in Soldotna.  Some would call it a landmark, having served thousands upon thousands of locals and guests alike, since 1966.  And if you grew up here, we’re sure you remember a special birthday party, wedding reception, anniversary, graduation, dinner party or that “first date” at the Riverside Restaurant with that amazing view of the river.  So many great memories!

Well, as time would have it…things deteriorate if not constantly maintained (especially in Alaska), and the poor old Riverside House & Restaurant had seen her better day.  It was time for a change, time for a new purpose, time to breathe new life into a new tomorrow and allow the beauty of this wonderful location to be enjoyed by many to come.

So in the spring of 2012, the bulldozers and the dump trucks rolled in….and the old Riverside House and Restaurant was no more!  In its place something new began to appear.  Brick by brick and board by board, a majestic new edifice was taking shape. Not an ordinary building, but something special…that would become a home to many of those same individuals who built this community and made it what it is today.

After 15 months of construction, sweat and tears, we are pleased to announce the Grand Opening of Alaska’s premiere senior care community: Riverside Assisted Living in Soldotna.  The building and all its amenities are brand new…but the spectacular scenery and that amazing view of the river is still the same!

Riverside Assisted Living in Soldotna was conceived with one thing in mind…making your golden years fun, comfortable and carefree, in an elegant setting.  Whether you are completely independent or needing significant assistance with ADL’s (Activities of Daily Living), our caring staff & experienced healthcare professionals are dedicated to your well-being.  And we’ve spared no expense in our beautiful 33,000 sq ft building, to make you feel right at home, while receiving unparalleled care.  Delicious meals, housekeeping/laundry, 24-hr staffing, medications management, access to a nurse, and assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.  We’ve got you covered.  You’ll enjoy stunning riverfront views from our Patio and Courtyard, spacious Dining, Living Room and Dance Hall…as well as from our Activity Room, Theater and 2nd floor Atrium Lounge.  And don’t forget a visit to our Salon, Spa, Library, Game and Exercise Rooms.  Musical pieces played on a baby grand piano and watching the fish in our 400 gallon aquarium are just a few things to keep you occupied at the Riverside.  But it’s the relationships you create—with our devoted staff and the other residents—that make this place so special.

Assisted living facilities attempt to address growing need

Three new assisted-living facilities are in various stages of development between Kenai and Soldotna as developers try to address a local need for senior services.

Two of the facilities, one in Soldotna and one in Kenai, will be built by the same developer, Rob Nash of Riverside Assisted Living LLC. The third is being developed by Clint Hall of Hall Quality Builders in Kenai.

Rachael Craig, Director of the City of Kenai Senior Citizen’s Department, which operates the city’s senior center and housing, said both developers approached her to find out if there was a need for assisted living in Kenai.

“Our seniors here in our area, since the day I walked in the door, have wanted to see assisted living,” Craig said. “They would love to see assisted living on our campus, but that’s not going to happen. It’s been hard because lot of our homesteaders want to stay in our area they want to stay in our community. They couldn’t understand why, when they needed to go into assisted living they had to go as far away as Homer. I’ve known people that have had to go to Anchorage.”
